About Us
Dr. Sarah Barnes Fratesi and Dr. Chris Herring utilize state of the art technology to provide the highest quality eye care in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Mississippi Eye Care Starkville, formerly known as Crigler Family Vision Center, is a full service eye and vision care provider and will take walk-ins, eye emergencies, and scheduled appointments. Mississippi Eye Care Starkville also offers a full service optical department, which carries the top brands in prescription eyewear, sunglasses, and safety eyewear.
Patients throughout the Starkville area come to Mississippi Eye Care Starkville because they know they will receive the personal attention and professional care that is our foundation. Our team of knowledgeable optometrist and staff are dedicated to keeping our patients comfortable and well-informed at all times. At Mississippi Eye Care Starkville, we will explain every exam and procedure and answer all of our patients’ questions. Additionally, we will work with vision and medical insurance providers to ensure good eye health and vision care for all of our patients.

Meet Our Doctors
Sarah Fratesi, OD
Originally from Jackson, TN, Dr. Fratesi joined Mississippi Eye Care Starkville (formerly Crigler Family Vision Center) in June of 2003. Dr. Fratesi received her Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from Mississippi State University in 1999. While attending MSU, Dr. Fratesi was a member of the Delta Gamma fraternity serving as Director of Sponsorship, and she also received the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal Research Award in 1999.
Following graduation she pursued her Doctor of Optometry degree at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. As a student at SCO, she served as Treasurer for the class of 2003 for four years, and was also a member of the Student Government Association. She was selected from a group of candidates nationwide to receive the Minnie F. Turner Low Vision Research Award in 2002.
Upon graduation, she was nominated by SCO faculty to be included in the 2002-2003 Who’s Who Among American College Students. Her memberships include American Optometric Association, Mississippi Optometric Association serving as InfantSee Committe Co-Chair, and the Northeast Optometric Society. Currently Dr. Fratesi serves as the Communications Advisor for the Delta Gamma chapter at MSU, and is active in the Rotary Club of Starkville.
In 2012 she was awarded Greek Advisor of the Year for MSU. An avid Mississippi State fan, Dr. Fratesi also serves as a vision consultant for Mississippi State University Athletics. She and her husband, Joe, are members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and are proud parents to 3 wonderful children: Nate, Caleb, and Leah.
Christopher Herring, OD
A Starkville native, Dr. Herring joined Mississippi Eye Care Starkville (formerly Crigler Family Vision Center) in June of 2017. Dr. Herring received his bachelors of Accounting and Masters of Taxation degrees from Mississippi State University in 2010 and 2011. While attending MSU, Dr. Herring was a member of Alumni Delegates, Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.
After earning his CPA license and working in public accounting, Dr. Herring decided a career change was needed. Dr. Herring pursued his Doctor of Optometry degree at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. As a student at SCO, he served as a Student Ambassador, National AOSA Advocacy Liaison, Student Government Association Treasurer and President of the Mississippi Optometric Student Association.
Upon graduation, he was nominated by SCO faculty to be included in the 2016-2017 Who’s Who Among American College Students. His memberships included American Optometric Association, Mississippi Optometric Association, and the Northeast Optometric Society. A lifelong Bulldog fan, Dr. Herring is proud to serve as a vision consultant for Mississippi State University Athletics.
Dr. Herring and his wife Danley, a Registered Nurse, are members of First Baptist Church and are actively involved in the Starkville Community.
Roy Miles, OD
A native of Starkville Mississippi, Dr. Roy Miles attended and played soccer at Itawamba Community College for two years before transferring to Ole Miss where he received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Biology in 2015. From there he received his Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. While there he received the Clinical Excellence Award in Ocular Disease, served as Student Council Class Representative and was a member of the Private Practice Club and SVOSH.

After graduation, Dr. Miles worked in private practice in Forest, MS for four years before joining Mississippi Eye Care. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Mississippi Optometric Association. Dr. Miles and his wife, Dr. Anna Miles, along with their daughter, Eleanor, are excited to be closer to his hometown while continuing to serve rural Mississippi.
